Originally the high balanced jumbo VA mortgage started in 2008 and had only allowed for zero down loans up to $697,000. Eventually though, prices declined and so did the VA loan limits. In 2009 they were reduced to $593,750. Throughout 2009 median home prices all through Southern California had stabilized in response to the high balance loan program, foreclosure stays and home buyer tax credits. In San Diego County alone, the median home prices rose from $323,000 in October of 2008 to $325,000 in October of 2009.
