Great and Simple Water Damage Makeover Do It Yourself Tips

A lot of homes unfortunately suffer from water damage at some point. Here you will find a really great way to repair some basic damage to the ceiling, walls and floor.

Repair Your Home or Business Damage Using This DIY Method:

  1. You must first remove the any of the old water damaged plasterboard from the wall or ceiling areas.

  2. Be sure to clean and wipe any mold with a bleach solution.

  3. Fill any holes in the ceiling with a patching compound (typically a plaster mixture) and allow to dry.

  • *Tip 1: To prevent and stop the mixture from sagging on the ceiling, try wrapping an old board that is the approximate with of the mixture area with cling wrap. In order to make it work, you must attach a wooden "prop" by using a spare door hinge and then pressing it up against the area of repair (basically from floor to ceiling height). Friction will hold the board and prop up until the compound has dried. The hinge is used as a simple safety feature which allows the board to swing away from the ceiling without it falling out when the "prop" is removed.

  1. Smooth over the lumps and bumps on the wall using an angle grinder. Fill any other larger holes using the same method as above.

  2. While the wall area is drying, sand down the ceiling area with fine paper and paint using a roller.

  • *Tip 2: You can cover your glasses or protective eyewear using cling wrap protects them from any paint spills.

  1. Your next step is to paint using a bonding and sealing agent. You should also try to add a little to the render in order to aid bonding. Apply the render to the damaged wall surface by using a trowel. You can then use a sponge float to smooth out any lumps or bumps in the render.

  2. If your carpet has had any damage to it as well, then be sure to remove any material below the carpet surface that has been damaged. You may be able to salvage your carpet and reuse it once the flooring is repaired.
